Project Title / Client Name

Garden Bay Pub – Sunshine Coast, BC

Project Type

Odor control / Ventilation improvement for aging septic system.

Goal

Eliminate restroom odors drifting into the pub during both peak summer months and the off-season.

Products Used

Air Vac ventilation units (2 units installed on existing vent stacks).

Result

The Garden Bay Pub struggled with restroom odors due to an older septic system and challenging site conditions. Heat and heavy use in the summer worsened the problem, while strong winter ocean winds caused issues even with low usage. Previous attempts to solve the issue—including raising the vent stacks six feet above the roofline—were unsuccessful.

In 2013, two Air Vac units were installed as a simple test by pressing them onto the vent stacks with no adhesive. Despite strong winter winds, the units remained in place through spring 2015. Odors were virtually eliminated, with only occasional issues on busy summer weekends when there was no breeze. The solution required no power, no maintenance, and resolved a long-standing odor problem for the establishment.
